Sarvam AI Closes $350M at $1.5B Valuation — India's Biggest AI Raise
Bessemer leads the round with NVIDIA, Amazon, and Prosperity7 joining — the largest private funding into an Indian pure-play AI company ever
Sarvam AI, the Bengaluru-based foundational AI company, is closing a $350 million round at a $1.5 billion valuation — the largest private funding into a pure-play Indian AI company ever. The round is led by Bessemer Venture Partners with NVIDIA, Amazon, and Prosperity7 Ventures joining as investors.
What Sarvam Does
Founded by Vivek Raghavan and Pratyush Kumar, Sarvam builds voice-first, agentic AI models for 22 Indian languages. Their flagship models include:
- Sarvam-30B: 30 billion parameter model trained from scratch on Indic language datasets
- Sarvam-105B: 105B parameter Mixture-of-Experts model
- Both were announced and open-sourced at Prime Minister Modi's AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam in February 2026
Beyond models, Sarvam has built an enterprise voice platform used for Indian government services, customer support agents, and multilingual business applications.
The GPU Advantage
The IndiaAI Mission has transferred Rs 99 crore (~$11 million) in GPU subsidies to Sarvam, provisioning 4,096 NVIDIA H100 SXM GPUs through Yotta Data Services in Mumbai. That's one of the largest domestic AI compute allocations to any Indian startup.
With the Series B closing, Sarvam now has:
- $350M in fresh capital
- Direct strategic investment from NVIDIA (compute partnership)
- AWS credits and partnership via Amazon
- 4,096 H100 GPUs from the government
- Open-source 30B and 105B models already shipped
Why This Matters
For years, Indian AI was largely application-layer — wrappers on American APIs. Sarvam is the most credible attempt at foundational Indian AI:
Sovereign capability: Models trained from scratch, not fine-tuned Western models. This matters for government and defense applications where data residency and model provenance are non-negotiable.
Indic language quality: Sarvam models outperform GPT-5.4 and Claude Opus 4.6 on Indian language benchmarks. For Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, and Odia tasks, Sarvam is genuinely best-in-class.
Enterprise traction: Deployments across Indian banks, telcos, and government helplines already handle millions of calls daily.
What's Next
Sarvam has announced:
- Sarvam Kaze — AI-powered wearable glasses launching May 2026
- Expansion to all 22 Indian scheduled languages
- Deeper government integrations under the IndiaAI Mission
For Indian developers, Sarvam's APIs are increasingly a viable alternative to OpenAI/Anthropic for Indic-language applications. See our Indian AI tools category for all current options.
